Residents of the area told Addis Standard that one person was killed and more than 2,000 cattle were looted in an attack allegedly carried out by “militants from Kenyan Turkana” in the Dasanech Woreda area of the South Omo Zone of the Southern Ethiopian Region.

Local residents said the attack took place on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

The resident, who stated that the herders had gone to the "Irom" area to graze their cattle, said that one person was killed and more than 2,000 cattle were stolen in the attack carried out by "Turkana" militants around 7:00 PM on Saturday.

The militants, who recalled that they had carried out similar attacks on Monday, said that the district security forces had reached them and fled.

Dasenach District Administrator Tadele Hate for comment on the matter, and the administrator responded in short, saying, “This is not a public-to-public conflict, but the activities of some small individuals.”
