Kenyan police say they have arrested 20 people who were being lured to fight in Ukraine by Russian recruiters.

A search of a residential building on the outskirts of the capital, Nairobi, found recruitment materials, travel documents and employment letters.

A man has been arrested for allegedly recruiting and coordinating the individuals to be sent to Russia in September and October.

The man was produced in court and ordered to remain in custody for 10 days while police complete their investigation.

There is a high concern that many people in Kenya are being tricked into accepting jobs in Russia.

A young athlete recently arrested in Ukraine has been tricked into joining the Russian army.

Authorities said the operation on Wednesday was part of a coordinated operation by various security and law enforcement agencies targeting a criminal network that is deporting large numbers of Kenyan job seekers from the country.

It is reported that 22 Kenyans were detained in a residential building in the Atay River area while "waiting to go to Russia."
