Kenya and the United Kingdom are seeking to expand military cooperation into unmanned aerial systems, cybersecurity and advanced defence technologies, as the two countries look to strengthen their ability to respond to evolving security threats.

The cooperation was discussed during talks between Kenya’s Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, and the UK’s Chief of Joint Operations, Air Marshal Allan Paul Marshall, who met to review the longstanding defence partnership and identify new areas of military collaboration.

The discussions covered existing cooperation in counter-terrorism, maritime security and military training, alongside opportunities to develop capabilities in emerging operational domains.

Both sides explored ways to deepen collaboration in unmanned aerial systems and cyber capabilities, areas that are becoming increasingly important to military operations. The technologies can strengthen surveillance, situational awareness and operational responsiveness, according to the statement.

The military leaders also discussed expanding joint training and professional development across different levels of the armed forces, with an emphasis on improving technical skills, tactical proficiency and the ability to operate in increasingly technology-driven security environments.

The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of the Kenya Defence Forces and the UK Armed Forces to strengthening interoperability, operational readiness and technological capabilities, while continuing cooperation on regional and international security.
