Kenya Restricts Presidential Website Access After Cybersecurity Incident

Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said access to the official website of the President was temporarily restricted after a cybersecurity incident was detected, as authorities moved to contain and investigate the breach. The ICT Authority activated cybersecurity incident response procedures immediately after identifying the incident, the ministry said in a statement issued on July 18, 2026.

The temporary restriction was implemented to support containment measures, forensic analysis and restoration of the website, according to the ministry. Authorities said mitigation measures have since been put in place and efforts are underway to restore normal access to the presidential website. The ministry said there is currently no evidence of unauthorised access to sensitive data, information loss or data exfiltration.

It added that government systems and digital services remain secure and operational. The ICT Authority is working with relevant government agencies and technical partners to conduct a comprehensive forensic investigation aimed at determining the circumstances surrounding the incident. The swift response demonstrates Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its digital infrastructure and cybersecurity capabilities.

The temporary restriction was a precautionary measure to protect critical government systems. Officials have assured the public that the incident did not compromise sensitive information and that services are being restored as quickly as possible.
