The Kenya Power Foundation has earmarked 20 million Kenyan shillings for community projects in more than 20 locations across Kenya under its Wezesha Jamii programme.

The initiative, which will run for one month, includes support for schools, healthcare facilities, environmental projects and vulnerable communities as corporate organisations increase investment in social programmes.

According to the foundation, planned projects include classroom renovations, construction of sanitation facilities, ICT laboratory development, dormitory upgrades, medical outreach programmes and refurbishment of health facilities.

The programme will also provide therapy and assistive equipment for children living with disabilities. Among the schools selected to benefit are Kakamega High School, Mabanga RC Primary School, Muguna Comprehensive School, and several others across the nation.

In West Pokot, the foundation plans to support children at Perur Rays of Hope Rescue Centre, while assistance for children with disabilities in Korogocho will be channelled through Light and Hope for Disabled Children.

Speaking during the launch of the foundation’s Luku Safi event in Nairobi, foundation patron and chairperson Logan Hambrick said the initiative is intended to strengthen communities through practical interventions.

“Wezesha Jamii is all about enabling our communities to do more and become better. By supporting schools, health programmes and key environmental projects, we are championing dignity and creating empowered societies,” Hambrick said. The foundation runs programmes focused on education, environment, and wellness.
