Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire, with the Israeli military withdrawing from some areas of Gaza.

Israeli troops have returned to areas where they were agreed upon, but have not withdrawn from the Gaza Strip as a whole.

Images have emerged showing thousands of Palestinians marching towards northern Gaza.

The area has been the scene of a heavy Israeli assault in recent months.

A ceasefire agreement has been reached after the Israeli government approved US President Donald Trump's peace plan.

Under the deal, Hamas will release all hostages. About 20 of the hostages held by Hamas are believed to be alive. Hamas will also hand over the bodies of 28 hostages.

Israel is releasing 250 Palestinian prisoners. 100 of the prisoners will be released to the West Bank and five to East Jerusalem.

1,700 Palestinians held in Gaza are also expected to be released.

A UN investigation has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza .
