At least 33 Palestinians have been killed in a series of airstrikes by Israel in response to alleged violations of a ceasefire agreement by Hamas, according to the Hamas-run Civil Defense Agency and hospital sources.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Hamas of attacking Israeli soldiers on Tuesday.

He also said that a violation had been committed when the bodies of the hostages were returned.

Hamas said it had "no connection" to the attack and that it was still adhering to the ceasefire.

Israeli airstrikes targeted homes, schools and residential buildings in Gaza City, Beit Lahia, Al-Burji, Nussirat and Khan Yunis.

The US president said he would not "jeopardise" the ceasefire agreement, but said Israel "must respond" if its soldiers are targeted.

Katz said on Tuesday that Hamas had crossed a "bright red line" by attacking Israeli soldiers in Gaza.

"Hamas will pay a price again and again for its attacks on soldiers and for violating the agreement to return the hostages that were killed," he warned.
