On Tuesday, Israel announced that it had received human remains handed over by Palestinian militants, and forensic experts are currently working to ascertain whether these remains belong to one of the three remaining hostages held in Gaza.

This handover represents the most recent development under a tenuous ceasefire that commenced in October and has persisted despite mutual accusations of violations from both parties.

The Palestinian militant organization Islamic Jihad reported that it discovered the remains earlier this week in Nuseirat, a refugee camp located in central Gaza.

The terms of the ceasefire stipulate that Hamas must release all hostages, and thus far, Palestinian militants have returned the bodies of 25 hostages. The remaining hostages include two Israelis and a man from Thailand.

In exchange, Israel has repatriated the bodies of 330 Palestinians to Gaza, the majority of whom remain unidentified.

Israel has accused Hamas of delaying the process and has threatened to resume military operations or to withhold humanitarian aid if all remains are not returned.

Hamas contends that it has been unable to retrieve all the remains of hostages due to their burial beneath rubble resulting from Israel's two-year offensive.

The office of Netanyahu has claimed that the delay constitutes a violation of the ceasefire.
