Israelis across the country marked the second anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack, on a day when talks were underway in Egypt to end the Gaza war.

The attack killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages to Gaza.

The Hamas Health Ministry said that more than 67,000 people were killed in the Israeli military campaign in Gaza in response to the attack.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that Israel had shown "miraculous resilience" amid "deep sorrow."

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have struck us hard, but they have not broken us," Netanyahu said.

The prime minister also pledged to achieve "all of the war's goals," including the release of hostages, the destruction of Hamas, and ensuring that Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel.

Recalling Hamas's attack on southern Israel two years ago, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said: "The horror of that dark day is forever etched in the minds of all of us."

On Monday, President Trump told reporters, "We have a good chance of making a deal; and it will be a final deal."
