The Israeli navy has reportedly intercepted a boat carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg and other activists have been detained by the Israeli navy while they were carrying humanitarian aid.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry said several boats were "safely intercepted".

The activists were reportedly taken to an Israeli port.

The Global Relief Flotilla (GSF), a group of people traveling by boat to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, was stopped "for approaching a military zone," the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.

The GSF said that there were 30 boats heading to Gaza and that they were stopped 85 kilometers from their destination.

"It is illegal. It is not done to protect us, but to show their desperation," they protested.

One of the boats was "deliberately rammed," the activists said.

They also said the boats were hit by large-scale water cannon.

The GSF said in a statement on social media that "the expansionist force will go to great lengths to starve and isolate the people of Gaza."
