Israeli airstrikes on Gaza early Sunday killed 11 people, Palestinian civil defense and health officials said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said six people were killed in an attack on a tent in northern Gaza, and five more were killed in another attack in the southern part of the Strip.

The Israel Defense Forces announced that they had struck terror targets that violated a ceasefire agreement with Hamas and killed militants who had infiltrated into the Israeli-controlled area of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army and Hamas have been exchanging daily ceasefire violations since the ceasefire agreement was reached in early October.

The Gaza Civil Defense said 11 people were killed in the airstrike, while medical workers at Al-Shifa Hospital said a 12th person was killed in the exchange of gunfire in addition to the attack.

The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says at least 600 people have been killed since the ceasefire agreement was signed.

At least 32 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza in February, local authorities said.

Yesterday's Israeli attack came as preparations were underway to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
