Iran signalled a delicate balancing act between diplomacy and military readiness, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi saying in Turkey that Tehran is prepared for both negotiations and conflict with the United States.

“The Islamic Republic faces no issue in engaging in negotiations; however, talks cannot occur under coercive pressure,” Araqchi said, framing Iran’s posture as one of cautious defiance. He noted that relations with Turkey are being actively developed to support dialogue and regional coordination.

The United States has warned that failure to engage could trigger “appropriate measures.” Araqchi said there has been no opportunity for direct discussions with American officials but insisted that “no time has been lost,” signalling that Tehran is weighing its options while keeping diplomatic channels open.

Reflecting on last June’s 12-day confrontation, Araqchi cautioned that “the current situation, due to America’s direct involvement, will differ from previous times. It is possible that the conflict may escalate beyond a two-nation war.”
