The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) has secured a $40 million commercial credit line from India Exim Bank to fund development projects across West Africa. The agreement was signed at India Exim Bank’s London branch by EBID President Dr. George Agyekum Donkor and India Exim Bank Chief Executive Ashok Kumar Vartia.

The facility is intended to support infrastructure and sectoral investments, including energy, health, transportation, agriculture, and other critical areas. Dr. Donkor said the funding would help advance projects aimed at improving economic outcomes for vulnerable populations while strengthening resilience amid a volatile global environment.

“This marks a key milestone in our ongoing commitment to back developmental projects in Africa,” Vartia said, highlighting India Exim Bank’s strategic role in facilitating trade and investment between India and the continent.

India Exim Bank has maintained a partnership with EBID since 2006, providing six credit facilities totaling $1.14 billion to support Indian exports to Africa. Ms. Trupti Mhatre, General Manager at India Exim Bank, noted that the new structured, long-tenor facility will deepen collaboration between Indian exporters and regional infrastructure projects.
