The International Court of Justice has ruled that Israel is obligated to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

Israel is required by international law to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Palestinians through United Nations agencies, the court said.

Israel: The UN has added that it has not provided evidence to support its claim that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa) is "not independent."

Israel has alleged that most of the agency's staff are members of Hamas or other militant groups, but has not provided any evidence.

A senior UN official said he believed Israel would respect the UN resolution.

Israel has rejected the International Court of Justice's ruling, calling it "politically motivated."

It has also said it will not work with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).

The ICJ ruling, while not binding, has significant diplomatic and moral value.
