Yemen's Houthi movement says its military commander, Mohammed al-Ghammari, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike.

The statement did not provide details, but said that Ghammari and his son died during a "heroic battle with Israel."

The Israeli military has carried out repeated strikes in Houthi-controlled Yemen in response to Houthi drone and missile attacks on Israel and ships operating in the Red Sea in connection with the Gaza war.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz Gamari said he "died of wounds sustained" in an airstrike his country carried out on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, in late August.

He also noted that the Israeli military had also killed the Houthi prime minister and other ministers in the strike.

"Another terrorist commander who intended to harm us has been removed from power," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement. "We will find them all."

The Iran-backed Houthis have been waging a full-scale civil war since they ousted the internationally recognized government 10 years ago and seized control of large swathes of northwestern Yemen.
