House Approves GOP Budget Plan to Unlock $70 Billion for Immigration Enforcement

The US House of Representatives approved a budget resolution that paves the way for up to 70 billion US dollars in additional immigration enforcement funding. The measure passed with a narrow 215 to 211 vote and utilizes the reconciliation process to bypass a Senate filibuster.

The funding is expected to boost resources for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This move comes as the government shutdown continues into its 11th week, with the Department of Homeland Security remaining unfunded since mid-February.

Democrats opposed the measure, arguing that it prioritizes enforcement over domestic economic pressures. Rep. Jodey C. Arrington defended the plan as necessary to restore safety and security. President Trump has urged completion of the legislation by June 1.
