Heineken has launched EverGreen 2030, a five-year strategy aimed at accelerating growth in emerging markets, with Africa a key focus. The brewer plans to expand its footprint in countries including Ethiopia, Mozambique, South Africa, and Cameroon, leveraging both global brands and local market adaptation.

The strategy, unveiled at Heineken’s Capital Markets Event in Seville, Spain, targets innovation, digital transformation, and productivity. Heineken expects beer volumes to grow by around one percent annually, supported by rising demand in fast-growing economies with expanding middle-class populations.

Dolf van den Brink, Heineken’s Chairman and CEO, said the company is “transforming its business to stay ahead in an increasingly volatile economic landscape,” highlighting priorities to accelerate growth, step up productivity, and future-proof the organisation.

In Africa, Heineken operates key breweries, including Harar and Bedele in Ethiopia, a new 100 million US dollars brewery in Mozambique, and holdings in South Africa following the Distell acquisition. The company also holds a stake in Cameroon’s Boissons du Cameroun and continues to strengthen its East African presence.

The company will invest in innovation across premium, mainstream, and low- and no-alcohol brands, while targeting 400–500 million euros in additional annual savings. Sustainability remains central, with targets for net zero carbon emissions by 2030 and improved water efficiency.

Van den Brink added: “EverGreen 2030 sharpens our growth strategy, allowing us to navigate consumer shifts and capture structural growth opportunities, particularly across Africa’s emerging markets.”
