American actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in the television series Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36, her representative confirmed to ABC News.

Her father, Skip Panettiere, announced her death in a statement, describing her as "an incredible light and a force of nature" who brought love and joy to those around her and to millions of viewers.

Panettiere rose to prominence as Claire Bennet in Heroes, the NBC superhero drama that ran from 2006 to 2010. She later starred as Juliette Barnes in Nashville, earning two Golden Globe nominations for the role. Her film credits included Remember the Titans, Ice Princess, Scream 4 and Scream VI.

She began her acting career as a child in the 1990s and also provided the voice of Dot in Pixar’s A Bug’s Life.

No cause of death has been disclosed. Further details surrounding her death were not immediately available.

Panettiere had spoken publicly about the challenges she faced during her life and career. She published a memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in May 2026, in which she reflected on fame, motherhood and difficult periods in her personal life.

Her death comes more than three years after the death of her younger brother, actor Jansen Panettiere, who died at 28 in February 2023.
