It has been reported that around 200 Hamas fighters are still trapped in a cave, hindering the progress of the Gaza ceasefire.

The Hamas fighters are believed to be in a cave south of the Israeli-controlled city of Rafah.

US President Donald Trump's ambassador and son-in-law Jared Kushner headed to Israel on Monday, as negotiators face a new setback in their efforts to advance the faltering Gaza ceasefire to the next, more complex phase.

Key points remain unresolved, including the disarmament of Hamas, the reconstruction and future governance of Gaza, and the deployment of an international security force to the territory.

The lack of a timetable for talks between Israel and Hamas, which is expected to lead to a major agreement, has raised doubts about whether the agreement can move to the next stage.

Amid these unresolved issues, another challenge has recently emerged, involving a large number of Hamas fighters believed to be in the Rafah tunnels, a southern city bordering the "Yellow Line" that marks the area under Israeli control.

Last week, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said that an amnesty could be offered to fighters who disarm, and that this could be a "model" that Washington wants to implement in the rest of Gaza.
