Police in Toledo, Ohio, said at least 12 people were wounded after two individuals exchanged gunfire on Saturday, in a case authorities described as an active investigation involving ongoing searches for suspects.

Two of the victims remain in critical condition, officials said, with injuries reported across a wide age range spanning from 14 to 61 years old.

Authorities said officers were dispatched at around 5:37 p.m. after reports of a person shot near the Old West End Festival area.

Police said the shooting involved two people firing at each other, and investigators are continuing to search for those responsible while pursuing leads and reviewing available evidence.

Deputy Police Chief Joseph Heffernan said the case remains active, adding that investigators are following up on leads.
