The Great Ethiopian Run is preparing to host a record 60,000 participants for its annual 10km road race on Sunday, November 22, 2026, as organisers expand the scale of the country’s largest mass sporting event. This edition of the race will mark the beginning of a new partnership with Bank of America, which has become the event’s main partner. Organisers said the partnership would support their ambition to make the Great Ethiopian Run the world’s largest 10km road race by 2030.

In addition to the main race, the children’s run, scheduled one day earlier, will expand participation to 5,000 children, according to organisers. To increase participation among younger runners, organisers have allocated 3,000 free places, equivalent to five percent of total registrations, for grade 12 students.

The event will also introduce electronic timing technology for the first time in its 26-year history for participants starting from the green category who complete the race in under one hour. Registration for the race will be conducted exclusively through the telebirr mobile application. Entry fees are set at 790 birr for participants starting from Meskel Square and 950 birr for those starting from the green category at the area in front of Ghion Hotel. The race will be held under the theme “My Run, My Color”.
