Google Introduces Gemini AI Coding Assistant for Developers

Published on 06/25/25

Google has entered the growing AI coding assistant market, aiming to compete with popular tools from OpenAI and Anthropic that have already attracted developers eager to save time by communicating with AI instead of writing code manually.

The tech giant’s new product, Gemini CLI, is positioned as a strong competitor to OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code. Designed to assist developers by generating code through natural language prompts, Gemini CLI is now available for free to anyone with a Google account.

However, users who exceed 60 requests per minute or 1,000 requests per day will need to upgrade to a paid Google service plan.

This release is part of Google’s broader push to remain a key player in the AI space, especially as rival platforms continue to gain traction with millions of users. Google recently stunned the tech world with Veo 3, an AI model that generates videos from text, showcasing the company’s ongoing innovation.

One thing is clear: Google is well-positioned to lead the next wave of the AI revolution.
