US-based furniture company Ashley Furniture has expanded into Ethiopia, entering a market where rising construction activity and hotel development are increasing demand for modern home and office furnishings.

The company launched its second branch in Ethiopia through Yusra Home, which has received exclusive dealership and supply rights for Ashley Furniture products in the country.

The expansion comes as Ethiopia’s construction and hospitality sectors continue to grow, with new hotels and buildings increasing demand for furniture that meets international quality and design standards.

Ashley Furniture, which operates in more than 155 countries, said its entry into Ethiopia reflects growing opportunities in the country’s consumer market.

Mark Maras, vice president of Ashley Furniture for Africa and the UK, said Yusra Home secured the partnership after meeting the company’s requirements for representation and supply.

He said Addis Ababa’s visible development and market potential made it an attractive location for the company’s expansion.

The US ambassador to Ethiopia, Ervin Massinga, said the arrival of the international brand would give consumers access to wider choices, improved quality and global standards locally.

He said the expansion could also support Ethiopia’s economy through job creation, new supply chains and skills development, while showing that international companies see investment opportunities in the country.

The event highlighted the growth of Ethiopia’s tourism sector and the expansion of modern hotels across the country as factors attracting global companies.

Yusra Nurhussein Reja, founder of Yusra Home and Ashley Furniture’s exclusive representative in Ethiopia, said the partnership would contribute to strengthening Ethiopia’s international business connections and improving its global image.

Yusra Home said introducing Ashley Furniture to Ethiopia took two years and has created jobs for about 30 Ethiopians. The company plans to open additional branches as it expands its presence in the market.
