France has announced it will summon the US Ambassador to Paris, Charles Kushner, for an explanation following accusations that it has failed to curb rising anti-Semitism.
Ambassador Kushner is Jewish, and his son, Jared Kushner, is married to Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump.
The ambassador made the comments that angered France in an official letter to French President Emmanuel Macron, published in the Wall Street Journal.
Kushner, who wrote the letter in support of Israel's criticism of France a few days ago, said that anti-Semitism in France has increased significantly since the start of the Gaza war.
In a statement following the accusation, the country's Foreign Ministry said France "strongly rejects" the "recent allegations," which it called "unacceptable."
