Former Oromia regional president Junedin Sado has accused the Tigray People’s Liberation Front of offering no useful ideas for Ethiopia beyond conflict, calling on the group to abandon what he described as a destructive political path and return to peaceful engagement.

Sado said the TPLF had contributed to divisions among Ethiopia’s communities during the period it was in power by setting one group against another.

“We have tasted the TPLF like salt and experienced it; we also worked with it. It has not had a single idea that benefits the country beyond conflict and destruction,” Sado said, according to the state-affiliated Ethiopian News Agency.

He accused the group of continuing to pursue a course that he said was harming the people of Tigray and of relying on external forces to advance its interests.

Sado also criticised what he described as the TPLF’s efforts to organise armed forces and destabilise the country, saying the approach would not produce a political solution.

He argued that Ethiopia, like other countries, should have a single legitimate national military and said maintaining armed forces outside the state structure would create further confrontation.

Sado said the only viable option for the TPLF was to abandon what he described as a path of destruction and return to a peaceful political process.
