African Collaborations Group (ACG) has appointed Aïcha Diop, a former senior executive at NBA Africa and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), to its Advisory Board as the group develops large-scale sports and entertainment projects across the continent.

Diop brings more than 18 years of experience spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East and North America, with work covering sports marketing, brand development, audience growth, operations and major events.

At NBA Africa and BAL, Diop was part of the team that launched BAL, the professional basketball league operated by the NBA outside North America. She led initiatives across multiple markets, including brand campaigns, audience programmes and cross-functional projects.

Her earlier career included senior roles at IBM and Flash Entertainment, where she worked on regional initiatives and major sporting and entertainment events involving Formula 1, UFC, athletics, tennis, football and concerts.

ACG said Diop’s experience will support its work to develop sport and entertainment districts that bring together venues, commercial activities and other infrastructure rather than focusing on individual stadium or event projects.

The group is positioning the model around projects that can attract private investment and generate revenue while supporting the development of local sports and entertainment industries. Its proposed projects are intended to bring governments, development finance institutions, investors, developers, sports organisations, infrastructure partners, operators and other stakeholders into the same development process.

Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard, ACG’s founder and executive chairman, said Diop’s experience in sports marketing and institution-building, particularly her role in the launch of BAL, would strengthen the group’s work.

ACG estimates that Africa’s sports economy could reach 20 billion US dollars by 2035. The group argues that the continent needs more integrated sports and entertainment ecosystems capable of linking sporting facilities with commercial and community infrastructure.

Diop holds a master’s degree in Sport & Lifestyle Management from Rome Business School and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
