Ford to Integrate Apple Maps into New Electric Vehicle Platform from 2027

Ford will integrate Apple Maps directly into its upcoming Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform from 2027, bringing Apple’s navigation technology into the vehicle’s built-in displays through the company’s new MapKit for Automotive software. The integration will provide Ford electric vehicle drivers with turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic and incident updates, detailed location information, and route recommendations. The system will also include electric vehicle-specific features such as intelligent routing and battery preconditioning to help drivers prepare for charging stops.

Ford said it will use road-level mapping data from Apple Maps to support the development of its next-generation BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system, which is designed to provide a more continuous assisted-driving experience. The partnership marks one of the first uses of Apple’s MapKit for Automotive SDK, a tool that allows vehicle manufacturers to embed and customise Apple Maps within their own vehicle systems while maintaining a design consistent with the vehicle interface.

“Apple Maps delivers the best map experience in the world, and we’re excited to bring the power of Maps’ navigation technology to Ford’s innovative Universal Electric Vehicle Platform,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services and Health. Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said the company’s upcoming midsize electric vehicle, expected to be priced at about $30,000, is designed to make advanced technology more accessible to customers.

The company said the UEV Platform will combine Apple Maps navigation with Ford’s own software, Ford app services and next-generation BlueCruise technology through a new vehicle architecture. Apple said the MapKit for Automotive SDK follows the same privacy principles used by Apple Maps, with location details and vehicle map activity not collected in a way that can be linked to individual users. CarPlay will continue to be available on Ford vehicles, allowing drivers to connect their iPhones and access compatible applications while driving.
