The Ethiopian Citizens for Social Justice Party (EZEM) has criticized the ruling party for its recent statement on the political and security situation in Ethiopia, saying it “neglects its own failures” and “shows a low level of accountability.”

In a statement issued last week, the Prosperity Party Council accused what it called “historical enemies” and “internal gangs” of making a new and coordinated attempt to destabilize Ethiopia.

The party said, “We have won the war we fought in the north of our country a few years ago,” and “we have concluded our military victory with the Pretoria Peace Agreement. But our enemies, who were frustrated by the agreement and wanted a prolonged war, have started trying other strategies.” These forces, it said, were operating “from within the country and from abroad.”

Ezema criticized the ruling party's statement that "foreign enemies are responsible for the violence and chaos," noting that government mismanagement and lack of transparency have created an environment conducive to the escalation of tensions.
