Former central committee members of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFCO) have announced plans to establish a new political organization, the Federal Democratic Party.

The party is seeking registration from the Ethiopian National Electoral Board, which requires collecting signatures from at least 10,000 members across seven regions, according to officials involved in the process.

Mr. Desta Dinka, a senior former OFCO leader, is identified as the primary architect and executor of the new party, supported by the advisory body of Ethiopian political parties.

Officials have cited financial and security challenges in coordinating the signature collection across all regions. The initiative to form the Federal Democratic Party began during the tenure of the former OFCO leadership.
