Former FBI Director James Comey has been charged with two felonies following his previous testimony to Congress.

Comey, a critic of President Donald Trump, is accused of lying to Congress in September 2020 when asked whether he authorized the release of classified information to the media.

Comey, who responded to the charges, said he was a free man and had "great faith in the federal justice system."

Former FBI Director James Comey has declared himself a free man after being indicted in a U.S. court on charges of making false statements and obstructing justice.

Comey's indictment came after Trump asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate his political rivals, including Comey.

Comey will appear in court in Virginia in a few weeks and be read the charges, CBS, the BBC's US affiliate, reported.
