The Ethiopian Quality Award (EQA) has developed a new evaluation framework designed to align domestic manufacturers and service providers with global market requirements, as reported by Sheger Radio.

The model incorporates technological adoption, operational systems, and compliance with European Union standards, providing a comprehensive benchmark for international competitiveness.

Chief Executive Officer Tewodros Mebrat confirmed that the framework addresses gaps in previous assessment approaches, which did not fully capture firms’ process efficiency, technology usage, or service delivery capabilities. “Our objective is to offer a unified standard that prepares Ethiopian enterprises to meet the expectations of international buyers,” he said.

The updated model applies to firms previously recognised for excellence, extending its evaluation to production processes, service operations, and technological readiness. By doing so, the EQA aims to help these organisations attract international partners and access new markets.

In addition to general manufacturing and service sectors, the framework specifically incorporates standards relevant to coffee exporters, reflecting EU regulatory and quality expectations.

The organisation indicated that the model is in the final stages of development and will be publicly launched in the coming days. EQA stated that the initiative provides a structured pathway for local firms to enhance their global competitiveness and readiness.
