Ethiopia’s securities exchange has added Prize Worth Investment Bank S.C. as its ninth trading member, expanding the number of financial institutions able to facilitate securities transactions on the country’s emerging capital market.

The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) said on Thursday that Prize Worth had received its membership certificate after obtaining a licence from the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) and meeting the exchange’s membership requirements.

The admission allows the investment bank to execute securities transactions on behalf of clients through the ESX trading platform, adding another intermediary to a market being developed to connect investors with opportunities to buy and sell securities.

Prize Worth’s entry brings the exchange’s total number of trading members to nine. These institutions serve as intermediaries between investors and the exchange, helping clients access the market and execute transactions.

Yodit Kassa, chief executive of the ESX, said the addition of another trading member was a step forward for Ethiopia’s capital market, adding that qualified intermediaries were important to expanding investor access and building market confidence.

The expansion of the exchange’s membership comes as Ethiopia develops its capital market as an alternative channel for raising long-term finance. A larger network of intermediaries can provide investors with more routes to the market, although its effect on trading volumes and liquidity will depend on investor demand and the supply of securities.
