Ethiopia’s Media Watchdog Warns Two Broadcasters Over Content Violations

The Ethiopian Media Authority has issued a final written warning to Ahadu Radio 94.3 and Arts Television, citing repeated content violations. The regulator said the decisions followed content monitoring, inspections and assessments of alleged legal breaches conducted under the authority granted by Proclamation No. 1238/2021.

The Authority said Ahadu Radio 94.3 and Arts Television breached their content obligations by repeatedly broadcasting information it described as unverified, unbalanced and harmful to the public interest. The regulator said it had held repeated discussions with the management of the two broadcasters, but significant changes were not observed. The final written warning was issued under Article 74(e) of Proclamation No. 1238/2021.

The Authority warned that further administrative measures would be taken if the broadcasters continue committing similar violations. The latest action comes one week after the regulator suspended JFM 106.7 from broadcasting for six months. The Authority said the suspension was based on findings from its monitoring and inspection activities, although it did not provide additional details on the specific violations that led to the decision.
