Ethiopia’s Information Network Security Administration (INSA) is expanding its Cyber Talent Summer Camp to six universities this year. The programme aims to develop a larger pool of locally trained cybersecurity and technology professionals.

The fifth edition will be hosted at Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, Bahir Dar University, Debre Berhan University, Wolaita Sodo University, Haramaya University, and Jimma University.

Bisrat Beyene, director of INSA’s Cyber Excellence Centre, said the expansion allows participants to attend training closer to their home regions as part of a digital inclusion strategy. More than 4,551 young people with technical skills have already registered.

The month-long camp offers training in cybersecurity, software development, embedded systems, aerospace, and emerging technologies, along with physical fitness and practical projects.

The programme is open to applicants aged 11 and above, with exceptional younger talent also considered. INSA emphasised that building a strong cybersecurity system requires domestically trained professionals beyond just acquiring technology.

The initiative supports Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy by expanding digital infrastructure and local technical expertise.
