Ethiopian Tourism State Minister Sileshi Girma Receives Leadership Award

The Addis Ababa Hotel and Tourism Professionals Association has recognised Tourism State Minister Sileshi Girma for his contribution to the hospitality and tourism sector.

Sileshi received the Tourism Leadership Excellence Award during the association’s second Hospitality and Tourism Recognition Programme, held in Addis Ababa. The programme recognised professionals, institutions and individuals for outstanding performance and contributions to the development of the hospitality and tourism industry.

The association cited Sileshi’s career across different areas of the tourism sector, including tourism guiding, academia, public administration and industry leadership.

He previously worked as a tour guide at the Lalibela heritage site and later taught tourism at the University of Gondar. He also served as an adviser to ministers at the former Ministry of Culture and Tourism, head of the Addis Ababa tourism bureau and chief executive officer of Tourism Ethiopia.

Sileshi currently serves as state minister at the Ministry of Tourism. He holds a Master of Science in ecotourism and an MBA and has completed postgraduate studies in Austria, according to the association.

The recognition programme also honoured other professionals, institutions and individuals for their contributions to the hospitality and tourism sector.
