The Coalition for Ethiopian Unity has called for a political negotiation process to address the country’s challenges, saying dialogue is necessary to find solutions and maintain national unity.

The coalition, formed by four political parties ahead of Ethiopia’s seventh general election, said it would continue peaceful political engagement until the government responds to its demands for a negotiation process.

Getnet Worku, the coalition’s public relations head, said political challenges facing Ethiopia cannot be resolved through existing approaches alone and urged the government to open discussions with political actors.

"The process of starting negotiations to resolve the problems that have emerged is not something that can be delayed," Getnet said during an interview with Ahadu Radio.

He said the coalition does not believe the solution is to repeat the election, but rather to address disputes through dialogue. The group has maintained that it wants negotiations focused on resolving political challenges rather than revisiting the electoral process.

The coalition said Ethiopia’s democratic system has faced difficulties and that the challenges created over time cannot be fully addressed in a single step.

Getnet said if the government continues operating solely on the basis of its election victory in recent years, the approach could create further risks for the country.

The alliance also stated that it would maintain its position on issues it considers matters of national interest and continue peaceful political activities until its conditions are addressed.
