Ethiopia’s Agricultural Corporation reported a 10% increase in incense export revenues during the 2024/25 fiscal year, generating more than $1.64 million from shipments to five key international markets, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.
The corporation exported a total of 2,505 quintals of incense, reaching customers in China, Dubai, Greece, Tunisia, and Turkey. Domestically, it supplied 260 quintals of incense, earning over 7.7 million birr.
Ghashaw Ayyilulum, Communications and Social Responsibility Manager for the corporation, highlighted that more than 90% of incense production is destined for export, reflecting the country’s growing presence in global resin markets. The corporation’s performance improved significantly compared to the previous fiscal year.
However, Ghashaw noted that illegal trade and sector-specific challenges continue to limit Ethiopia’s ability to fully tap into the economic potential of its natural resin and incense industry.
The corporation plans to increase exports slightly to 2,510 quintals in the 2025/26 fiscal year, aiming to strengthen foreign currency earnings and expand market reach.
