The Ethiopian Embassy in Riyadh is investigating a series of videos circulating on social media showing Ethiopians fighting and attacking one another in Saudi Arabia, saying one suspect has been detained by Saudi police.

The embassy said it is working with community representatives and relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents and identify those involved.

According to information gathered so far, individuals allegedly involved in the violence entered Saudi Arabia through irregular routes and have been sheltering in remote, desert areas. The embassy said they had formed groups along geographical lines and were engaged in repeated clashes, although the underlying cause of the disputes remains unclear.

One suspect has so far been taken into custody by Saudi police, the embassy said.

The embassy said it is working with Saudi authorities and Ethiopian community elders in Riyadh to investigate the incidents, identify other people involved and ensure they are brought before the law.

It also called on members of the Ethiopian community to provide any relevant information that could help authorities identify and apprehend those involved.
