Senior officers from the U.S. National War College have received a briefing at the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington, D.C., focusing on security dynamics in the Horn of Africa. The engagement was led by Ambassador Abraham Mengistu, Deputy Head of Mission.

He provided an overview of regional developments and outlined Ethiopia’s diplomatic and security priorities in the Horn of Africa. According to the embassy, the discussions also covered the long-standing strategic relationship between Ethiopia and the United States, with emphasis on cooperation in security-related areas.

Ambassador Abraham further highlighted Ethiopia’s ongoing reforms across multiple sectors, saying they were supporting economic growth and improving conditions for investment, including from U.S. private sector actors.

The visiting delegation from the U.S. National War College participated in discussions on regional and security issues during the briefing. They are expected to visit Ethiopia in the near future for further engagements with government institutions.

The visit follows a related programme in March 2026, when a delegation from the U.S. Army War College visited Ethiopia’s Defense University for an academic exchange focused on military education and strategic studies.

During that earlier visit, the Defense University said discussions centred on cooperation in training, research, and institutional capacity building, alongside tours of laboratories and meetings with university leadership.

Businesses and institutions engaged in security, defence and regional development are closely watching Ethiopia’s growing engagement with U.S. military education programmes.

Overall, the briefing at the Ethiopian Embassy underscores the deepening security and strategic dialogue between Ethiopia and the United States in the Horn of Africa.
