An Ethiopian refugee who was wrongly released after being sentenced to prison for sexual assault will be deported this week, UK Justice Minister David Lammy said.

Hadush Kebatu was arrested on Sunday in Finsbury Park, north London, 48 hours after being mistakenly released from prison.

Hadush was sentenced to 12 months in prison last month for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy and another woman while they were staying at a refugee hotel in Epping.

He was reportedly preparing to be deported before he was wrongly released from prison.

The justice minister said the independent team investigating the abuses at the prison would present a report to parliament on Monday.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said an investigation was underway and that "we must ensure this never happens again."

Haddush was first arrested in July last year, sparking protests outside the refugee hotel he was staying at in Epping after arriving in the UK by small boat.
