Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, Ethiopia’s largest commercial lender, has processed over 9 trillion birr through its digital banking channels during the first six months of the current fiscal year, the bank reported at its half-year performance review.

Digital transactions now account for more than 87 percent of the bank’s total financial activity, reflecting a strong shift by customers toward electronic banking services. President Wogayehu Ge’Mariam highlighted that clients are increasingly using digital channels as a standard practice, allowing faster and more convenient access to banking services.

Adoption of digital channels has risen from 73 percent in the previous fiscal year, demonstrating steady growth in electronic payment and transfer methods nationwide. Bank officials said the trend reflects the institution’s operational efficiency while meeting evolving customer needs.

The state-owned lender expects digital channels to continue dominating transaction volumes through the remainder of the fiscal year.
