Ethiopian Airlines is aiming to become a 10 billion US dollar business this financial year after increasing annual revenue to 9.1 billion US dollars, after posting a 20 percent jump on its revenue. Presenting the group's annual performance on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew said revenue for the 2025/26 fiscal year rose 20 percent from a year earlier, equivalent to more than 1.4 trillion birr.

The airline exceeded its cargo target, transporting 897,000 tonnes during the financial year, 16 percent above plan. The group's expansion continued across both its international and domestic network. It introduced four new international destinations during the year, including Portugal, Vietnam and Abu Dhabi, while increasing its domestic network from 22 to 25 destinations by launching services to Yabelo and Negele Borena.

Fleet growth also remained on the agenda, with eight aircraft entering service during the financial year. The group's aerospace manufacturing business produced 68 aircraft components for Boeing during the financial year, generating 9.2 million US dollars in revenue. Mesfin said a new manufacturing facility is also nearing operational launch.

Having closed the year with record revenue despite rising costs, Ethiopian Airlines is now targeting 10 billion US dollars in revenue for the current financial year, according to Mesfin. The carrier's cost base, however, expanded even faster. Operating expenses climbed 25 percent during the year as the conflict in the Middle East and other international developments raised costs. Mesfin also said the regional crisis reduced passenger traffic. Despite those pressures, the airline implemented efficiency measures that recovered 37 million US dollars in costs.
