Ethiopian Airlines Group has opened a new premium passenger lounge at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, investing more than 16 million US dollars in a facility aimed at upgrading the airport’s ground experience for high-value travellers.

The lounge, which spans 5,500 square metres and can host up to 1,000 passengers at a time, is now the largest of its kind at the airport, according to the airline. It is accessible to Platinum and Gold members of Ethiopian’s ShebaMiles loyalty programme, Star Alliance Gold members, and eligible frequent flyers from partner airlines.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ethiopian Airlines Group chief executive Mesfin Tasew said the facility forms part of the carrier’s efforts to improve service quality across the full passenger journey, from check-in to arrival. He described the lounge as a key addition to the airline’s long-term investment in customer experience as traffic through Addis Ababa continues to grow.

The airline said the new space is designed to combine comfort and convenience, reflecting its focus on hospitality standards that align with major international hubs. Addis Ababa Bole International Airport serves as Ethiopian’s main hub, linking passengers to a network of more than 145 destinations worldwide.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the Ethiopian Airlines Group board, executive management and other industry stakeholders.
