Ethiopian Airlines has opened a new passenger terminal in Kombolcha, expanding its domestic infrastructure as part of a broader effort to reinforce secondary cities as viable nodes in its growing aviation network.

The facility, which cost over €12 million (roughly $13.7 million), includes a 3,500-square-meter terminal, VIP amenities, and supporting infrastructure. It sits in South Wollo, a region increasingly positioned as a logistics and manufacturing corridor in north-central Ethiopia.

The airline says the terminal will improve service for travelers moving between regional industrial hubs and international gateways, especially as Kombolcha continues to attract export-oriented investments.

The opening aligns with Ethiopian Airlines' multi-tier growth strategy under Vision 2035, which includes doubling its fleet, entering new markets, and modernizing infrastructure. It comes as the carrier reported $5.6 billion in revenue during the first nine months of the current fiscal year—an 8% increase year-on-year—fueled by new route launches and higher passenger volumes, which hit 14.5 million, up 13% from last year.

Ethiopian Airlines carried 14.5 million passengers in the past fiscal year and generated $5.6 billion in revenue during the first nine months. During the same period, it added four international destinations to its network and expanded its fleet with 10 new aircraft.
