According to a study published by Bloomsbury Publishers, Ethiopia ranks first in Africa for frequently shutting down the Internet and limiting internet freedom.
The study, titled "Internet shutdown in Africa", conducted by Felicia Antonio and Tony Roberts and published in the form of a book by Bloomsbury Publishing Company based in the United Kingdom, evaluated the Internet shutdown in African countries from 2016 to 2024.
Thus, in the last nine years, from 2016 to 2024 in the European calendar, 193 internet shutdowns have been recorded in the African continent.
The study, which ranked countries according to the frequency of internet shutdowns in the mentioned nine years, placed Ethiopia in the first place among the 55 African countries as it shut down the internet thirty times in these years.
