The United States is showing growing interest in Ethiopia’s aviation, mining, healthcare, finance and technology sectors as Addis Ababa accelerates reforms aimed at improving conditions for foreign investors, according to discussions held between senior Ethiopian and US officials.

The talks, held between Zeleke Temesgen (PhD) and US Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Jose Massinga, focused on expanding American investment participation and strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

Among the issues discussed were opportunities linked to Ethiopia’s planned international airport project, reforms in the banking sector, and mechanisms to improve information exchange with foreign companies operating in or considering entry into the Ethiopian market.

Massinga said American investors were increasingly interested in Ethiopia following reforms that opened previously restricted sectors and sought to liberalise parts of the economy.

The discussions also examined progress under the Ethiopia-US Structural Dialogue framework, including matters affecting existing investors and broader efforts to deepen trade and commercial engagement between the two countries.

Zeleke outlined ongoing institutional and policy reforms intended to improve the investment climate and address operational challenges faced by investors.
