The Ministry of Innovation and Technology said more than 3.6 million Ethiopians have completed digital skills training under the government’s 5 Million Ethio-Coders initiative. This marks a major step in expanding the country’s technology workforce capacity.

Participants who successfully completed the programme received certifications confirming their competency in digital skills. The initiative is strengthening citizens’ ability to participate in the digital economy.

Seyoum Mengesha, chief executive for digital economy systems at the ministry, said the programme supports the implementation of Ethiopia’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy. The training is being carried out across all regional states with progress reviews every 15 days.

The government has prioritised digitalisation as part of its economic transformation agenda, focusing on technology infrastructure, digital literacy, and innovation development.

The Ethio-Coders programme is regarded as one of the country’s major digital skills development initiatives aimed at preparing millions of Ethiopians for employment in an increasingly digital economy.
