Global corruption index shows that Ethiopia ranks better than its neighbors

Transparency International, which publishes an annual report on corruption in public services around the world, has released its 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index.

The report ranks 182 countries worldwide, and shows that Ethiopia ranks higher in terms of corruption than its neighboring countries.

According to Transparency International's annual Corruption Perceptions Index, Ethiopia ranks 96th out of 182 countries.

Ethiopia scored 38 out of 100 in the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, which is lower than the global average of 42/100.

Neighboring Kenya scored 30/100 in the report, followed by Eritrea at 13/100 and Sudan at 14/100.

Ethiopia's neighbors, Somalia and South Sudan, ranked last out of 182 countries, scoring 9/100.

Compared to the average score of sub-Saharan countries, it is 32/100, which is higher.

The organization, which monitors the state of corruption in countries, rates 182 countries on a scale from (0) for highly corrupt to (100) for corruption-free, based on the perceptions of experts and business owners on the level of corruption in a country's government institutions.
