The Immigration and Citizenship Service has partnered with the Ethiopian Engineering Corporation to develop a network of technology-driven border management centres across the country.

Officials from both institutions met in Addis Ababa to outline plans for four primary service hubs, with a wider rollout of advanced facilities expected nationwide. The centres will introduce integrated systems designed to track movements more efficiently and accelerate processing at key entry points.

Selamawit Dawit, director-general of the Immigration and Citizenship Service, said the current border infrastructure is inadequate and requires comprehensive modernisation. She added that the new centres would follow a standardised design and feature technology capable of real-time data management.

Shemelis Eshetu, chief executive of the Ethiopian Engineering Corporation, said the project will focus on solutions that are rapidly deployable and scalable, with construction reflecting both modern engineering standards and local community considerations.

The initiative will expand Ethiopia’s border control network and forms part of broader efforts to enhance migration management and national security.
