The government has formally introduced an unmanned smart police service, marking the first deployment of such a system in Ethiopia and expanding the use of digital technology in law enforcement.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced the launch on Monday via his social media page, stating that the system marks a new stage in the country’s effort to modernise policing through digital tools.

According to the statement, the platform is designed to improve public access to police services by enabling faster, technology-supported interactions. It is also intended to strengthen the operational capacity of law enforcement institutions, particularly in accelerating response times and improving crime prevention processes.

The initiative is part of reforms aligned with the Digital Ethiopia 2030 strategy, which seeks to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of public institutions through digital transformation.
